OUR COMMUNITY

Playground

Colorful and full of fun, your kids won’t be able to resist a little playtime with our large and modern playground. Featuring monkey bars, slides and climbing areas, time at our impressive playground is an opportunity to make family memories. A nearby nature trail adds to the outdoor experience as your children enjoy a day to play.

Pool

When the mercury rises, cool off with an on-site pool. Our newly renovated three to eight foot pool offers fun in the sun for every resident, from kids to adults. Open from Memorial Day through Labor Day, you won’t want to miss a chance to lounge or play poolside. We are in the process of renovating the pool area during the colder months, but it will be ready to go once the warm air returns.

Nature Trail

Need some fresh air? Look no further than The Riverwalk’s very own nature trail. With the addition of lights along the pathway and several family picnic areas, the nature trail area aims to be a place where you and your family will love to spend time together.

School Districts

Salem City Schools are among the best. All of the schools are fully accredited by the Virginia Department of Education as well as the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. The Salem City School Division was also recognized by the Virginia Board of Education as a "Distinguished Title I School Division." Every school in Salem met all AYP (Adequate Yearly Progress) under the provisions of the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) in 2007.

These distinguished honors are in part a result of the ability and diligence of Salem's teachers. To date, 18 Salem Teachers have earned National Board Certification. In addition, Salem's teacher salaries rank 12th out of 133 Virginia school divisions, at $2,025 higher than the state average per teacher.

Additionally, The Salem Educational Foundation awarded more than $155,000 in scholarships to 79 members of the Salem High School Class of 2008.

For all these reasons and more, in Salem you can rest assured that your kids will receive a first class education.
